In high school boys basketball playoff games:

The Westchester High School Comets soared to a dominating 85-46 victory over visiting Birmingham High School in the first round of the Los Angeles City Section Championship Division playoffs Friday, February 15th.

The second-seeded Comets (27-3) jumped out to a 25-12 lead in the first quarter and took a commanding 48-19 lead at halftime on the way to the victory.

Jarred Dubois led Westchester with 15 points, including three three-pointers, and Dominique O’Connor added 13 points.

Westchester was scheduled to play Crenshaw High School in the second-round game Wednesday, February 20th.

The Venice High School Gondoliers grabbed a convincing 70-50 victory over Garfield High School in the first round of the Los Angeles City Section Invitational Division playoffs Friday, February 15th.

The Gondos (15-14) were scheduled to face Reseda High School in the second round Wednesday, February 20th.

The Ocean League champion Santa Monica High School Vikings earned a 62-46 victory over Ramona High of Riverside in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs Friday, February 15th.

The Vikings (20-7) narrowly trailed 28-27 at halftime but scored 17 points in both the third and fourth quarters to come away with the victory.

Ed Willis scored 20 points to lead the Vikings, who then lost 44-41 to host Chino Hills High in the second round Tuesday, February 19th.

The St. Bernard High School Vikings were defeated 70-61 by Pasadena High School in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs Friday, February 15th.

The Vikings took the early lead in the game and were tied 30-30 with Pasadena at halftime, but they were held to just nine points in the third quarter, as Pasadena closed out the win.

Ken Jones led the Vikings with 19 points and Devin Price added 15 points in the game.

St. Bernard, which finished in third place in the Del Rey League, ended the season with an overall record of 13-14.

The St. Monica High School Mariners lost 55-51 to Hillcrest Christian High in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs Wednesday, February 13th.

Jonathon Azer led the Mariners with 18 points and four rebounds.

The Mariners, who finished third in the Camino Real League, ended the season with an overall record of 18-9.

In high school girls basketball playoff games:

The Westchester High School Comets grabbed a 47-31 victory over San Fernando High School in the first round of the Los Angeles City Section Invitational Division playoffs Thursday, February 14th.

The Venice High School Gondoliers were handily defeated 87-41 by host Narbonne High School in the first round of the Los Angeles City Section Championship Division playoffs Thursday, February 14th.

The 14th-seeded Gondos were outscored 27-3 in the first quarter and trailed 54-22 at halftime.

Venice, which finished in third place in the Western League, ended the season with an overall record of 10-17.

The Ocean League champion Santa Monica High School Vikings cruised to a 64-40 victory over Redlands East Valley in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs Saturday, February 16th.

The Vikings (23-4) were scheduled to play Blair High of Pasadena in the second round Wednesday, February 20th.
