In high school football games:
The Westchester High School Comets defeated visiting Palisades High School 24-3 to pick up their first Western League victory of the season Friday, October 26th.
The Comets (3-5, 1-2) had suffered four consecutive losses before capturing the convincing win against Palisades (2-6, 1-2).
Westchester scored two touchdowns in the first half, including a 46-yard run by quarterback Kalan Collins and a 25-yard run by running back Andre Buford. Jason Figueroa added a 24-yard field goal to give the Comets a comfortable 17-0 lead at halftime.
Buford led the Comets with 13 carries for 100 yards rushing in the game.
The Comets will next host Fairfax High School, which is undefeated in league play, in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, November 2nd.
For the second straight week, the Santa Monica High School Vikings were handed a narrow Ocean League loss, a 30-27 defeat to host Culver City High School Friday, October 26th.
The Vikings (4-4, 1-2) came out on top in the battle between the two teams last season, but this time it was undefeated Culver City (8-0, 3-0) which had the last word.
Santa Monica held a 20-13 lead in the third quarter, but the Centaurs fought back with two touchdowns and a field goal to close out for the key victory.
Christian Ross led the Viking running game with 27 carries for 167 yards. Senior quarterback Ryan Katz finished five-of-14 for 93 yards passing in the game.
Max Monbouquette led the Santa Monica defense with 11 tackles.
The Vikings will play their last home league game of the season against Inglewood High School at 7 p.m. Friday, November 2nd.
The St. Bernard High School Vikings earned a 35-12 victory over visiting Bosco Tech High School Friday, October 26th, to remain undefeated in Del Rey League play.
Senior quarterback Ryan Simpson threw touchdown passes of 30 and 41 yards to Derl Howard to help lead the Vikings (5-3, 3-0) to their fourth consecutive win.
Simpson finished with 96 yards passing and 47 yards rushing in the game. Running back Adam Long led the Viking running attack with 103 yards.
The Vikings will next play host Cathedral High School in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, November 2nd.
The St. Monica High School Mariners were held to 31 yards rushing in a 39-0 shutout defeat to host Verbum Dei High School in a Camino Real League game Saturday, October 27th.
The Mariners (0-8, 0-2) will next host La Salle High School in a league game at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 3rd.
