The local high school softball season has come to an end after the two remaining local teams in the Southern Section playoffs — Santa Monica High School and St. Bernard High School — were both defeated in the second round Tuesday, May 23rd.
Back-to-back Ocean League champion Santa Monica High School lost 3-0 to host Oaks Christian High School of Westlake Village in the Division III playoffs.
Oaks Christian scored two runs in the first inning to take the lead for good.
Lana Bowie, Sarina Fazio, Yaneth Guzman and Crystal Perez each had one hit for Santa Monica, which finished with three errors in the game.
Junior pitcher Hannah-rose Peters threw three strikeouts in seven innings for the Vikings.
Santa Monica finished the season with an overall record of 21-6 and won the league championship with an undefeated league record of 10-0.
The St. Bernard High School Vikings were defeated 8-1 by host Cornerstone Christian High School of Camarillo in the Division VII playoffs.
After the Vikings scored a run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score at 1-1, Cornerstone Christian racked up seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.
Sophomore Shannan Valentin, who finished one-for-two, scored the only run for St. Bernard.
Sophomore pitcher Leah Rodriguez threw two strikeouts and walked nine batters in seven innings for the Vikings.
St. Bernard ended the season with an overall record of 8-12-1 and finished in third place in the Camino Real League with a league record of 5-3.
