For the first time, the annual Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade will be expanded to a second day and held on Friday and Saturday evenings, December 10th and 11th.

The Friday evening boat parade will be run between 7 and 9 p.m. and the Saturday evening boat parade between 6 and 8 p.m.

Traditional fireworks that annually noted the beginning of the boat parade will be shot off the south jetty at 5:55 p.m. Saturday.

As in previous years, the parade boats will be judged on Saturday evening.

The theme for this year’s boat parade is “Sights and Sounds of the Holidays.”

The parade boats will circle the Marina main channel several times on each of the two nights.

“We wanted to try something different this year,” said Cindy Williams, boat parade president.

“For people who are not able to attend the Saturday parade, this will give them another opportunity to enjoy the parade,” she said.

Extending the boat parade to a second night will also give boaters participating in the parade an extra night to show off their lights and decorations, she said.

The entry fee for the boat parade is $25 for individual and family boats.

“There is also a “two for one” deal going on, where past participants’ entry fees will be waived when they bring in a boater who hasn’t entered the boat parade before,” Williams said.

Commercial entries will have a higher entry fee.

Street banner opportunities are still available for area businesses interested in supporting the boat parade, starting at $1,000, Williams said.

Admiral sponsorship — the highest level of sponsorship — includes the opportunity to ride on a boat in the parade that will feature the name of the Admiral sponsor.
