This Fourth of July rings in with parades, fireworks shows and memorial services honoring the anniversary of the independence of the United States of America from the rule of the British. Events in the area include:

NINTH ANNUAL “WESTCHESTER ON PARADE” — The LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Westchester on Parade event comes marching down Loyola Boulevard from Loyola Marymount University to Westchester Park between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, July 4th.

The parade, themed “America’s Salute to California Dreamin’,” will be the first public outing for newly inducted Chamber of Commerce chairman of the board Jim Ferro. Immediately after the parade there will be the inaugural Stars & Stripes picnic hosted by the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa and Westchester Park.

ARLINGTON WEST MEMORIAL SERVICE AND PEACE WALK — The L.A. Catholic Worker and the American Friends Service Committee are sponsoring a July 4th anti-war event with a memorial service and peace walk beginning at 11 a.m. on Santa Monica beach.

With more than 4,000 U.S. military dead, reportedly more than a million Iraqi casualties, and no end in sight, the Arlington West Santa Monica memorial is striving to mark this Fourth of July with reflection and a silent peace walk commemorating all victims of the Iraq war, as well as a recommitment to a greater emphasis for peace.

FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA AT MARINA DEL REY — The traditional fireworks show over the main channel in Marina del Rey will take place beginning at 9 p.m., with vantage points at Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way; Fisherman’s Village, 13755 Fiji Way; and beaches in Marina del Rey and Playa del Rey.

The WaterBus service will operate from 11 a.m. to midnight on July 4th. Boarding locations are at Fisherman’s Village, 13755 Fiji Way; Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way; Waterfront Walk/ Fire Station #110, 4433 Admiralty Way; Mother’s Beach, 4101 Admiralty Way; Dolphin Marina, 13900 Panay Way, Dock Gate #C-200; and Marina Harbor, 14028 Tahiti Way, Dock Gate #A-2200.
