Former longtime Marina del Rey resident and real estate agent Irene Franck has died. She was 86.
Franck passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 3rd from the effects of a recently diagnosed respiratory ailment, her family said.
She was born in Shanghai, China to a Russian mother and Portuguese father. After escaping the Japanese occupation, she and her family immigrated to Perth, Australia. There she met her future husband, Herb Franck, who was a U.S. Navy crewman.
The couple recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
In later years, Franck was a successful real estate agent in Marina del Rey, where she and her husband lived for nearly two decades. She was also well known for her philanthropy throughout the Westside.
Irene and Herb retired to Coronado in 1989 and enjoyed many years of world travel afterward.
Franck is survived by her husband, Commander Herbert A. Franck (U.S. Navy retired), daughters April and Robin (James), son Loren, grandchildren Falayla and Loren Harrison, brother Edward Vickers and family, and numerous friends.
Irene asked that no memorial services be held and, in lieu of flowers, she suggested consideration of The Smile Train, 28th Floor, 41 Madison Ave., New York, NY, 10010.
