In an event where the skipper must be 50 years old and crew members at least 40 years old, the Jesse L. Carr Championship Regatta was run simultaneously with the Barusch/Castagna Regatta over a three-day period Thursday to Saturday, June 23rd to 25th.
Del Rey Yacht Club (DRYC) hosted both events, which were part of the Pacific Coast Yachting Association West Coast Regional Championship Regatta.
The Jesse L. Carr Regatta is for one-design sailboats. Martin 242s were the design designated.
Scoring was based on a low point score, and Craig Yandow and crew, sailing Velerito, took four firsts and one second and accumulated only six points.
Roberto Cordero of DRYC Club served as regatta chair for this event.
Boats used in the regatta were donated by the host club and the courses were windward, leeward or triangular or any combination.
Three boats competed — two from Marina del Rey and one boat representing Victoria, British Columbia.
The three sailed in assigned boats, with one practice race to get the feel of the boat and five races in the competition.
A trophy presentation took place in conjunction with the Barusch/Castagna Regatta at Del Rey Yacht Club Saturday, June 25th.
