Los Angeles Times art critic Christopher Knight will give a lecture entitled “Criticism, Journalism and Looking at Art” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 14th at The Broad Stage at Santa Monica College, 1310 11th St., Santa Monica.
A three-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Criticism (1991, 2001 and 2007), Knight received the 1997 Frank Jewett Mather Award for Distinction in Art Criticism from the College Art Association — the first journalist to win the award in more than 25 years.
His lecture will cover art, journalism, history and critical art writing by journalists and others, and it will include examples found in traditional print media and online media. Distinctions will be made among journalistic, trade, academic and theoretical criticism.
The Santa Monica College Art Department, in conjunction with Otis College of Art and Design in Westchester, is sponsoring the lecture.
