Fictitious Business Name Filing

The Argonaut Newspaper is an adjudicated newspaper for the county of Los Angeles and we can assist you with the filing and publication requirements for a Fictitious Business Name Statement (DBA). “On April 4, 2011, the Business Filing & Registration Section implemented an automated system for the filing of Fictitious Business Name Statements (DBAs). This new process requires an original signature by the registrant when filing in person at the headquarters of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office in Norwalk, requiring the registrant to be present in order to complete the filing process.”

The Argonaut can file your DBA for you but due to the change, your filing will take one additional week to be returned.

All checks must be written to The Argonaut.

L.A. County Clerk’s filing fee is $26.00 plus The Argonaut publication fee for 4 weeks (required) $75. Fee includes one business name & up to one registrant (signers). Each additional business name or each additional registrant, add $5.00 to county fee.  There is a service charge of $29 to have The Argonaut file your FBN on your behalf. A total of $130 will be paid to The Argonaut plus any other additional fees. All Filing services include the “Proof of Publication” being filed with the LACC.

 

Applications and name checks can be done at the county’s Website:  www.lavote.net.

IMPORTANT: PRINT ORIGINAL FROMS, AND SIGN. ALL Forms must be notarized using Pg. 4 in the packet.

Post office boxes are not acceptable as an address.

Attach a copy of incorporation or Organization papers if corporation or LLC.

Please include a phone number on your check.

Mail or bring in completed application including the notarized identity affidavit and check to:

You will receive a certified copy from the County Clerk in approximately two-three weeks. We will then publish the notice for four consecutive weeks and file a proof of publication as required by law. The entire process takes 6-8 weeks. Your recorded document will be mailed to you and will remain on file with the L.A. County Clerk for five years. Note: a renewal is required every 5 years. Renewals over 5 years require refiling.
