Fictitious Business Name Filing

The Argonaut Newspaper is an adjudicated newspaper for the county of Los Angeles and we can assist you with the filing and publication requirements for a Fictitious Business Name Statement (DBA). “On April 4, 2011, the Business Filing & Registration Section implemented an automated system for the filing of Fictitious Business Name Statements (DBAs). This new process requires an original signature by the registrant when filing in person at the headquarters of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office in Norwalk, requiring the registrant to be present in order to complete the filing process.”

The Argonaut can file your DBA for you but due to the change, your filing will take one additional week to be returned.

Original Filing: 2 Checks are required when The Argonaut files your DBA. One to the County of Los Angeles and one to The Argonaut. The charges for filing, publication, or abandonment of your DBA are:

County Check: L.A. County Clerk’s filing fee $26.00 plus publication fee for 4 weeks (required). Fee includes one business name & up to one registrant (signers). Each additional business name or each additional registrant, add $5.00.  You can make the check payable to: RRCC (Register Recorder County Clerk).

Argonaut Check:The Argonaut publication flat fee is $75 for 4 weeks regardless of names and registrants made payable to “The Argonaut”.  If you want us to file your paperwork at the County, the fee will be $104 ($75 for publication + $29 delivery to the County fee).

Renewal Filing: The fee to renew an existing DBA, without changes through The Check to County is $26 and $5 for each additional business name or registrant. Check to The Argonaut is $39.

To abandon a DBA: Check to County is $26; Check to The Argonaut is $104 for 4 weeks publication, including the “Proof of Publication” being mailed back to the LACC.

Applications and name checks can be done at the county’s Website:  www.lavote.net.

IMPORTANT: PRINT ORIGINAL AND COPY FROM WEBSITE.

Print out applications and fill out or type on the online forms (both pages), print and sign.

Post office boxes are not acceptable as an address.

Attach a copy of incorporation or Organization papers if corporation or LLC.

Remember to write two checks, one to the county and one to The Argonaut.

You will receive a certified copy from the County Clerk in approximately two week. We will then publish the notice for four consecutive weeks and file a proof of publication as required by law. The entire process takes 6-8 weeks. Your recorded document will be mailed to you and will remain on file with the L.A. County Clerk for five years. Note: a renewal is required every 5 years. Renewals over 5 years require refiling.
