Praises this year’s longer Marina Boat Parade route
To the Editor:
I want to thank the captains and crews of the decorated boats in this year’s Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade.
Speaking on behalf of the hundreds of viewers who enjoy the boat parade from the Playa del Rey side of the channel, this parade was the best of the past few years. I saw the smiles and overheard the comments. Our hats are off to all of you who took the time and effort to decorate your vessels. Yes, Santa Claus did come to town!
Over the past few years the parade route has become shorter and shorter, going west into the channel. Many families with young children and elderly could not appreciate your hard work prior to this parade due to the boats not completing the entire route.
This year, however, braving high winds as well as spreading the holiday spirit, you, the captains and crews, brought much joy to many by completing the entire route. You not only did this route one time but we saw most of the boats two or three times.
With your lights, music and characters on board, you lit a spark in all of our holiday hearts. Maybe you cannot see us sitting in the darkness of the night, but we can surely see every bit of work which goes into your floating stage.
Thank you for all of your hard work, for sharing the holiday spirit and for completing the entire parade route. We look forward to next year.

Hopes for repetition of Playa Vista holiday luncheon
To the Editor:
A celebration of Christmas, Kwanzaa and Chanukah took place at Fountain Park on Playa Vista property Saturday, December 13th.
Many residents were pleasantly surprised with a catered luncheon on cloth-covered tables in the clubhouse.
It was a first-class arrangement hosted by Darren Schwartz, resident manager, and his very capable staff. Everything was “on the house” except tips.
Very little food was left over and I think it was donated.
Hopefully this delightful and most tasty occasion will be repeated during our new year, 2009.
