Marina del Rey resident Lilly “Luba” Sheinberg died Saturday, Sept. 11. She was 101.
Sheinberg was born Sept. 17, 1908 in Baku, Russia to Leon and Elizabeth Metersky. Her family emigrated to the U.S. in November 1923, arriving at Ellis Island, NY.
She married Milton Sheinberg on June 28, 1930 and they had three children, Miriam (Mimi), Rita and Robert.
The couple moved to Santa Monica in 1974, where Lilly had lived until Milton passed away Feb. 7, 1988 at the age of 82. Lilly was a former employee of a women’s dress store in Santa Monica.
She had lived with her daughter Mimi Wenger and her husband Greg, a local photographer, in Marina del Rey for the past 10 years.
Among Sheinberg’s interests was playing cards with friends and relatives. She also enjoyed cooking and baking.
In celebration of Sheinberg’s 100th birthday, she received a proclamation from Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl.
Sheinberg is survived by her daughter Mimi and her husband Greg of Marina del Rey; daughter Rita of Montana; son Robert and his wife Karin of Rosamond; grandsons Howard, Stuart, Aaron, Jared and Derek; great-granddaughters Kirsten, Jillian, Natalie and Jordyn; step granddaughter Kristen and step great-granddaughter Ally.
