Boys & Girls Club of Venice and Santa Monica members were among more than 500 youths from local clubs who competed in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America-Los Angeles County Alliance’s third annual “Triple Play Basketball Tournament” Aug. 6.

Club officials noted that the basketball event at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles is the only tournament where all 27 Boys & Girls Clubs in the county alliance come together to compete.

Each of the clubs had the opportunity to enter two girls teams and two boys teams in the competition, and the Boys & Girls Club of Venice was represented by three teams at this year’s tournament.

The event is free to the clubs through sponsorships provided by Coca-Cola as part of its “Live Positively” initiative. This is the third year that the county alliance and Coca-Cola have partnered for the tournament, but Ralphs joined as a new sponsor this year and contributed $10,000 to support the program.

“We thank Coca-Cola for continuing to support Boys & Girls Clubs of America and are excited to have found a new partner in Ralphs,” said Boys & Girls Club of Venice board member and Coca-Cola employee Leslie Billinger. “This annual tournament is something that our kids really look forward to and something we might not be able to do without help from partners like Coca-Cola and Ralphs.”

Terry Fitch, west region senior vice president for Coca-Cola Refreshments, added, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Boys & Girls Club of Venice, the Boys & Girls Club L.A. County Alliance and Ralphs on the third annual Triple Play Basketball Tournament. The tournament provides us with a great opportunity to help kids learn about the importance of a balanced diet and regular physical activity, both of which are an important part of our Coca-Cola ‘Live Positively’ philosophy.”
