A boat fire in Marina del Rey produced a long cloud of black smoke, which was visible throughout The Argonaut coverage area around 1 p.m. Friday, December 10th.

The fire broke out in the area of slip 2600 of Marina Basin E and allegedly started when electrical components malfunctioned on a 35-foot boat, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said.

Officials said that two boats, one on each side of the boat ablaze, were damaged in the fire.

County firemen had extinguished the fire by 1:15 p.m.

The damage to the three boats was estimated at $160,000 Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said.
