Featuring 20 bands on six stages and, for the first time, a circus show, the ninth annual Main Street Santa Monica Summer SOULstice is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 27th and 28th.
Entertainment for children includes dancers from Hoopnotica, along with clowns, jugglers, stiltwalkers and more.
The festivities also include the two-day Sidewalk Sale, a major component of the annual event.
Several tribute bands will return from previous years, and new contemporary music performers with diverse influences have been added to the festival.
Returning to perform are the tribute bands The Neil Deal (Neil Young tribute), Petty Theft (Tom Petty tribute), Dr. Wu (Steely Dan tribute), Highway 61 Revisited (Bob Dylan tribute), Southbound (Allman Brothers Band tribute), The Summer of Love Show, and Heartless (Heart tribute).
Playing for the first time will be Helios Jive (with Carlos Vera, Live Painter), The Bonedaddys, Stevie Starlight, The Paul Chesne Band, The Sunshine Brothers, Minibar, The Golden West, The Shore, Aras, Ena Vie, Killing Cassanova, Undercover Live, and BLVD. Both Helios Jive and BLVD performed at this year’s Coachella festival.
Deejay Steve Prior will provide the entertainment at Bay Avenue.
Circus acts will include Hoopnotica, Ravyn, HoopTease, The StiltRockers, along with a number of clowns, stiltwalkers and entertainers including Jesselynn Desmond, Ross Steeves, Tom Neelan, Bill Parks, and Antonio Gomez-Rubio, the Stiltwalker. The circus show at the First Federal parking lot is produced by Another Jaw Dropping Production.
Children’s activities include a petting zoo, and Rockie the Clown, who will do facepainting and balloons.
The Main Street Business Improvement Association in Santa Monica will produce the celebration on Main Street, between Pico Boulevard and the southern border of the city.
Activities will be in parking lots, courtyards and on select side streets. Many Main Street merchants will have in-store parties or offer items on sale as part of the Sidewalk Sale.
