A 42-year-old Los Angeles man who was wounded in a shooting near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Saturday night, June 23rd, remained hospitalized in stable condition at Argonaut press time, according to police.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Pacific Community officers were called to the area of West Century Boulevard and Vicksburg Avenue in Westchester at about 10:15 p.m. regarding a report of shots fired.

A man who was reportedly under surveillance by bail bondsmen had crashed a vehicle into a light standard at the scene, police said.

After the crash, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the man’s vehicle and another vehicle, said officer Karen Smith, LAPD spokeswoman.

The man, who was wounded in the ear and face during the shooting, ran away but was apprehended, police said. No other injuries were reported in the shooting.

The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was expected to be arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

Following the shooting, police temporarily closed the Century Boulevard entrance to the airport.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing.
