January 13th-16th

After canceling the annual Marina del Rey In-Water Boat Show that was scheduled for June this year, the Westchester-LAX/Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce has signed an agreement with a new boat show producer and announced that the 30th Annual Marina del Rey boat show will be held Thursday, January 13th, through Sunday, January 16th.

ADS Productions of Playa del Rey will produce the event. ADS contacts for the boat show will be Bill Schultz, president, and Tom Gattuso, vice president, sales and marketing.

The boat show will be held in Burton Chace Park, site of previous Marina boat shows.

Chamber president Diane Barretti promised that the January boat show “will be twice as large as ever before, making it Los Angeles’s biggest display of sail and powerboats in the water.

Also planned are exhibits of personal watercraft and marine accessories.

“The emphasis will be on incredible sailboats,” Barretti said.

The January event will be the first Marina del Rey Boat Show produced by ADS Productions.

“The chamber conducted an intensive search to find a new producer who could take the show to meet the needs of the boating industry, Barretti said.

Barretti said “ADS has told us that the boat show will likely double in size and will include a huge variety of new and brokerage boats, ranging in size from 25 feet to over 90 feet.”

Barretti said the boat show was moved from its traditional June date to January because “January is more in line with manufacturers’ build-out schedules.”

“Changing the show to January is a great move,” said Jim Bohart of Sailboats, Inc.

“January is when people are shopping for boats. June is when they want to be sailing them,” he said.

“The change in date will certainly benefit factories that will, in turn, create some great incentives for buyers,” he added.

As in past years, the Marina del Rey In-Water Boat Show will have on-land displays in tents and boats in the water, Barretti said.

“There will be everything from kayaks and marine accessories to safety equipment and trailerable boats,” she said.
