The South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club is joining forces with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for a fund drive in the annual MS Walk at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15th.
SCCYC has created a new and unique way to participate in this benefit by organizing boats and skippers to invite sponsors out for a leisurely day sail, with all proceeds going to the charity.
“I told the skippers — if you don’t have sponsors in mind, think of friends or co-workers that would like to donate or sail,” said event organizer and South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club vice commodore Jerry Magnussen. “I suggested asking people that they may or may not have gone sailing with before and have their spouse or significant other do the same.
“We’re hoping for a good turnout for a great cause. It should be really fun — a nice day on the water. And there will also be some boats of special interest to racers, such as Sparta (One-Design 48). Those curious about racing will have great fun.”
Magnussen is also hopeful that racers who are participating in the Chuck Stein race or Cruiser Handicap race that day will use the race in coordination with the charity fundraiser and encourage their crew to get involved by donating to the cause.
