The Venice Neighborhood Council Emergency Preparedness Task Force says that a useful gift for community members to give their friends and family this holiday season could be emergency supplies.

Some of the supplies recommended by the task force are headlamps, lanterns, single burner portable cooking/camping stoves, generators, flashlights with extra batteries, fire extinguishers and AM/FM crank/shake or solar radios, many of which can be used for camping as well. Emergency kits for car or home are also recommended gifts.

“It couldn’t be easier to find these supplies,” said Linda Lucks, chair of the Neighborhood Council Neighborhood Committee. “They are available from the American Red Cross and at many local camping and hardware stores.”

The Red Cross store is at 1450 11th St. in Santa Monica or on the Internet at www.RedCross Store.org/.

“Please support your local merchants — times are tough for our local retailers,” Lucks said.
