The City of Santa Monica has launched a new Internet service that enables homeowners and contractors to obtain permits on the Web for simple repair and replacement projects at ePermits .smgov.net

The service makes it possible to obtain permits using the Internet for projects that do not normally require construction drawings or other special approvals.

Projects that are eligible for the on-line permit application process include minor plumbing, electrical and mechanical work, kitchen and bath remodels, and re-roofing.

The Web site also enables users to view the results of completed inspections, research the building permits issued for a property and pay outstanding permit fees online.

The site is one of several planned improvements to the city’s construction permitting and inspection services using technology.

Another recently announced online service is eInspections .smgov.net, which makes it possible for homeowners and contractors to schedule building inspections for permitted projects using the Internet.

Homeowners and contractors will no longer be required to visit City Hall to schedule inspections for permitted construction and remodel projects.

These required inspections may be requested online or by calling the eInspections interactive voice response system at (310) 458-2202.

After providing a valid construction permit number and the construction site address, online and telephone users may request an inspection and choose from a list of available inspection dates.

Web users are also able to view a history of past inspections and verify that a requested inspection has been scheduled.
