Sarah Ioannides, the first woman to conduct the New West Symphony on a Masterpiece Series program, will lead a performance at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 at Barnum Hall on the campus of Santa Monica High School, 601 Pico Blvd. in Santa Monica.

Ioannides will be joined by violinist Lara St. John, who is making her second appearance with the orchestra.

St. John will be the soloist for the West Coast premiere of Matthew Hindson’s Violin Concerto No. 1 “Australian Postcards.” The program also includes Claude Debussy’s La Mer and Igor Stravinsky’s Suite from The Firebird in the 1919 version.

Ioannides is currently in her seventh season as music director of the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra and served in that same capacity with the El Paso Symphony from 2005 to 2011.

In addition to her post with the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Ioannides has performed as a guest conductor on concert stages and opera houses on five continents.

Student rush tickets priced at $10 are available at the concert hall box offices beginning 30 minutes prior to the performance.
