The city of Santa Monica Human Services Division has launched a new “youth violence prevention” portal, www.santamonicayouth.net, on the city’s Web site.
City officials say the site provides a central location for information about steps being taken to prevent youth violence in Santa Monica.
Through the collaborative work between the city of Santa Monica, education and nonprofit agencies, neighborhood organizations, governmental partners, business, and faith communities, the community is striving to keep youths safe and to support their healthy development, officials said.
Most recently the City Council directed that the Youth Resource Team (YRT) be strengthened and a new policy group convened to ensure Santa Monica’s initiatives are on track, in line with best practices nationally, well communicated and evaluated.
Officials say they hope to address the complex and urgent problem of youth violence with innovation, coordination, and hands-on hard work.
“We’re very excited about santamonicayouth.net and envision it as an important tool for sharing with the public the current work of the Youth Resource Team and ways the community can get involved,” said Julie Rusk, human services manager.
Initially, the portal will provide details on upcoming Youth Resource Team meetings and information relevant to the efforts in youth violence prevention in Santa Monica.
