Otis College of Art and Design will hold its inaugural Kite Festival directly north of the Santa Monica Pier from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15.
The event was created as a celebration of all kites for families and communities throughout Los Angeles, promoters said.
Children from Urban Compass, the Junior Blind of America and St Jude Children’s Hospital have created and will fly their own lightweight kites during the festival.
The event will also feature renowned kite makers including Otis alum Tom Van Sant, the creator of the event who plans to fly many of his famous kites. Van Sant will be joined by fellow noted kite artists from the western United States.
Visitors are encouraged to bring kites to fly at the festival.
Admission to the Kite Festival is free and parking at the Santa Monica Pier lot is $8.
