The Partnership Education in the Public Schools program was developed by the Mar Vista Family Center to maintain parents as partners in their child’s education. The Mar Vista Family Center is at 5075 Slauson Ave., Del Rey,
The program provides opportunities for parents to engage with, support and strengthen the work of schools.
Weekly workshops for parents, teachers and administrators in the local elementary schools help parents learn how they can improve the quality of their child’s education and to build an engaged parent volunteer team that functions in partnership with teachers and administrators.
The workshops address ways that parents can support, monitor and advocate for their children’s education and healthy development.
Workshops are held in classrooms and consist of one-hour sessions that incorporate contents from “Preschool Raps,” but are adapted to the public school.
Samples of topics include “Supporting Literacy at School and at Home,” “Communication” and “Assisting Children in the Classroom.”
To accommodate parents with young infants and children up to age five, childcare is provided throughout the participation day.
The Partnership Education in the Public Schools staff trains childcare providers to work with children age five and under on age-appropriate pre-literacy activities.
Mar Vista Family Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving and strengthening community and intergenerational bonds and empowering youth and their families.
