Westchester resident and registered nurse Patricia “Pattie” Kay Broome has died. She was 53.

Broome was surrounded by her family when she passed away Aug. 14 after a brief but fierce battle with lung cancer.

Broome, who grew up in Venice and graduated from Venice High School in 1975, lived in Hawaii for several years.

A lover of water sports and the ocean, Broome enjoyed spending summers at the beach. This love for the ocean continued when Broome became an avid scuba diver, traveling all over the world to sample the different waters.

Her favorite place was Cozumel, Mexico, where she and her husband, David, vacationed regularly.

Broome worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years at area hospitals including UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, and at several Kaiser Permanente hospitals. As a nurse educator for the last six years, Broome trained many nurses who are providing service today.

Broome is survived by her husband of 18 years, David, her sister Gwen, and two brothers, Mike and Bill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Cancer Association in her name at: www.lungusa.org/donate/.
