The deadline to apply for appointment to a seat on the Santa Monica College (SMC) Personnel Commission has been extended to Monday, September 18th. The Santa Monica Community College District is seeking applications for appointment to the commission. The appointment will be effective Friday, December 1st, for a term of 12 months.

The SMC Board of Trustees recently voted to expand the Personnel Commission from three to five members. One of the two new commissioners will be appointed by the trustees and the other by SMC’s classified (non-teaching) employees, as provided by state law.

The SMC Personnel Commission is the public body responsible for the administration of the college’s Merit System, a civil service system for classified employees.

To qualify for appointment to the commission, the applicant:

n must be a registered voter and resident of the Santa Monica Community College District, which encompasses Santa Monica and Malibu; and

n must support the concept of employment, continuance in employment, in-service promotional opportunities and other related matters on the basis of merit and fitness.
