Joseph Stevens, the founder and owner of Bridge Consultants, a workplace safety consulting firm in Playa del Rey, received a SCORE-LA 2007 Success Story award at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Friday November, 2nd.

Now in its 42nd year, SCORE-LA is a local chapter of the national SCORE organization, described as a nonprofit association of “highly experienced current and retired business executives” who donate their time to advise and counsel individuals who own and operate small businesses or who plan to open a business.

Stevens said he credits SCORE-LA counselor Jerry Earle, a former apparel executive, with providing him with much-needed business advice.

“Bridge Consultants’ success rests on two critical things,” said Stevens. “First, our unique approach to safety training — including the use of humor as a teaching tool — has been extremely effective in helping our clients employees become personally committed to workplace safety.

“Second, the business counseling that we have received from Jerry Earle of SCORE has been invaluable in helping me to build and maintain a sustainable and economically successful enterprise.”

“We are very proud of these award winners, and we look forward to continuing to provide them with effective business counseling,” said Richard Hadel, the chair of SCORE-LA. “2007 has been a banner year for SCORE Los Angeles, with some 10,000 consultations with those interested in starting and growing a business in the Los Angeles area.”

The guest speaker at the event was James Ellis, dean of the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and a longtime business executive and entrepreneur.

“We are confident that our counseling will enable many people to achieve the kind of success that this year’s ‘Success Story’ awardees have had,” Hadel added.

SCORE -LA is affiliated with the United States Small Business Administration.
