To continue the goodwill of the Winterlit House, which is now being used to collect donations for the “Best Gift Ever” community gift drive, the gingerbread playhouse is being offered for sale to the highest bidder, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL).

Winterlit is this year’s holiday partnership between Santa Monica Place mall and the City of Santa Monica Bayside District Corporation.

The two sponsors paid for the construction and design of the Winterlit House, allowing for the full sale price to go directly to PAL.

The gingerbread playhouse is currently in the 1300 block of the Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica, near the A/X Armani Exchange clothing store.

Donors can drop off gifts at the playhouse until Thursday, December 21st, for the Winterlit “Best Gift Ever” community gift drive, also benefiting PAL.

Gift donations are also being accepted at the Guest Services booth at Santa Monica Place.

Volunteers will wrap and deliver the gift donations to Santa Monica children who might otherwise go without presents this holiday season.

Interested buyers for the Winterlit House can bid online at www.santamonicaplace.com or www.downtownsm.com. Bids will be accepted until Thursday, December 21st and the winner will be contacted directly.

“The eight-by-ten-foot Winterlit House will bring joy well beyond its dimensions,” said Kathleen Rawson, executive director of the Bayside District Corporation. “PAL kids will receive the generous gifts collected there, the sale of the playhouse will benefit vital PAL programs and the lucky auction winner will bring a one-of-a-kind playhouse into the lives of his or her family.”

Winterlit program planners hope the gingerbread playhouse will reap a large donation for PAL, just as California real estate commands top dollar.

“Really, there’s no better deal in Southern California real estate — particularly when you consider all the benefits to both the high bidder and, even more importantly, all the youths served by PAL,” said Jean Huber, senior property manager for Santa Monica Place.
