A Friday morning shooting near the corner of Centinella Avenue and Washington Place has triggered a massive police search for the suspect in surrounding areas that continued into Friday afternoon.

The shooting occurred at 11:27 a.m., Los Angeles police officer Jack Richter said. The suspect, described by police as a young Latino wearing black clothing, fled the scene on foot.

“A male Hispanic approached another man on the street, shot him and ran off,” Richter said.

At the scene, Detective John Skaggs said the shooting occurred in front of an apartment complex on Washington Place between Wasatch and Colonial Avenue.

The victim’s condition is not known.

Police have established a wide search perimeter around the area, but traffic has not been blocked off.

“It’s not a perimeter where people can’t come and go. We’re looking for specific person,” Richter said.

Skaggs said the perimeter stretched three blocks by three blocks.
