Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution (CRAAP) invites residents from communities near the Santa Monica Airport for a pre-Earth Day protest against jet exhaust at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 18th in the 12100 block of Sardis Avenue near the airport.
The protest is being organized due to a recently published UCLA air monitoring study that found a heavy concentration of toxic ultrafine particles in neighborhoods east of the airport, where sections of Mar Vista and West Los Angeles are situated.
Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl is scheduled to speak at the rally, along with Martin and Joan Rubin, the founders of the organization sponsoring the protest.
“It’s been three years since our first protest without any jet pollution relief, and that is shameful,” said Martin Rubin. “Now, as we approach the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, it is again appropriate that we hold this protest to show that airport jet air pollution is a major environmental concern.
“We need to continue organizing, educating and protesting until our community’s environmental concerns are addressed.”
