Canyon Capital Realty Advisors employees distributed pairs of TOM’s tennis shoes to more than 125 children gathered at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica during a holiday pizza and cupcake party last month.

Bobby Turner, the realty company’s managing partner, also presented a $30,505 check to the club.

“Our annual holiday visit to the Santa Monica Boys & Girls club has become a wonderful tradition for Canyon, and we are thrilled to support an organization that works so hard to improve the lives of young people,” said Turner. “Resources are strained for families across Los Angeles and the needs of the community are greater than ever. We are thrilled to bring a bit of cheer into the lives of these children and make their holidays a little brighter.”

The nonprofit club, founded more than 60 years ago, strives to enable all young people, especially those with the greatest needs, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. The club currently serves approximately 7,000 youths through memberships and community outreach.

Programs in Santa Monica are offered at two branch locations, and at Santa Monica High School, John Adams and Lincoln middle schools and McKinley and Roosevelt elementary schools.

The shoes and donation were given in support of the Family Assistance Program at the Santa Monica Boys & Girls Club. Each year, the program provides needy families with food, clothing and presents.

“For two years running, Canyon has helped create a fun and energetic event that is a highlight of the holiday season at the Boys & Girls Club,” said Aaron Young, president and chief executive officer of the Santa Monica Boys & Girls Club.

“These economic times have put tremendous pressure on many families whose children are involved in the club. Now, more than in years past, the tennis shoes and Canyon’s generous donation will make a meaningful difference in the lives of these children.”
