The Santa Monica Red Cross has hired three new people to work on development and customer service.
Shirley Strom of Santa Monica has been named director of resource development.
She will be responsible for fundraising activities and working with individuals, corporations, foundations, and other charitable groups to secure financial support for the Santa Monica chapter.
Strom has been an executive director for three other nonprofit organizations and a fundraising/ special events consultant for nonprofit organizations.
With the Santa Monica chapter, she was a member of the resources development committee and a volunteer assisting with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Michele McKean of Woodland Hills joins the Santa Monica chapter staff as a development associate.
Her duties include assisting Strom in the chapter’s fundraising efforts and she will be responsible for building and maintaining the chapter’s donor database.
She previously worked on a Getty Villa Museum assignment where she assisted in the preparations for the museum’s public opening earlier this year.
She also worked as a buyer and inventory control manager for Felissimo, a luxury retailer in New York City.
Betty Martinez of Los Angeles has been given a second position as a customer service supervisor for the reception area, where she provides general supervision and guidance to volunteers who help with phones.
Martinez is also bilingual and assists the chapter’s Spanish-speaking clients.
Her main position at the Santa Monica chapter is in health and safety services.
She keeps records, makes reports, and assists with the enrollment of students in certification classes.
In the coming months, her duties will expand to include sales of CPR/first aid emergency supplies to local residents and businesses.
Previously, she worked for the Red Cross Los Angeles chapter, where she was a health and safety assistant and the nurses assistant coordinator.
