The American Red Cross of Santa Monica provided assistance to an 87-year-old man who was displaced after a fire broke out in his trailer late last month.
The tenant was not injured in the fire, which caused a complete loss to the trailer and its contents, Santa Monica Red Cross officials said.
The Santa Monica Red Cross chapter was called to render assistance after the Santa Monica Fire Department responded Feb. 25 to a fire in a single trailer in the Village Trailer Park, 2930 Colorado Ave. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
Mark Solnick, the chapter’s preparedness and response director, met with the victim of the fire at the scene.
The elderly victim was housed in a local motel by the Santa Monica Red Cross pending more permanent arrangements for his housing. The Red Cross additionally provided a Client Assistance (debit) Card so the victim could replace necessities such as clothing, eyeglasses and medications. The Santa Monica Red Cross provided additional services on an “as needed” basis.
