The American Red Cross of Santa Monica’s annual “Red Tie Affair” fundraiser April 9 preliminarily raised an estimated $375,000 for the organization.

Renowned actress and comedian Betty White was the recipient of the coveted American Red Cross “Crystal Cross Award” for her contributions to animal welfare, a Red Cross spokesman said.

The Red Cross Spirit Award was presented to actor and Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet member Josh Duhamel, who helped raise funds for the Haitian and Japanese earthquake relief efforts by organizing youth runs on Santa Monica Beach that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The awards were presented by American Red Cross President and CEO Gail McGovern.

The Rick Crocker Spirit of Volunteerism Award was bestowed on a team of doctors from St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica who traveled to Haiti last year and assisted in the relief effort after the earthquake.

Award winning KTTV Fox 11 News anchor Christine Devine was the master of ceremonies.

The guest list included community leaders, business leaders, VIPs, entertainment and sports professionals in addition to celebrities from the world of entertainment.
