The Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary Club, in partnership with the Westchester Rotary Club, awarded 90 grants totaling over $20,000 to teachers for projects at 16 local schools Jan. 13.
The Rotary clubs said the grants represent their ongoing efforts to support the local schools and communities.
In order to be considered for the funding, each teacher was required to submit a written summary of the project goals and objectives, as well as clearly outline the benefits to the students.
Submissions were evaluated by various Rotarians and other community members who ultimately selected the winners. All names and school identification were removed so as to not influence the outcome.
The awards ceremony was held Jan. 13 at the Los Angeles Fire Station 5 community room in Westchester.
Rotary is an internationally based service organization with 1.4 million members that promotes “service above self.”
