While students at Saint Anastasia Catholic School in Playa del Rey are adjusting to the new school year, they are also hoping to help the less fortunate.
Each class in the K-8 school is gathering new school supplies to donate to Alexandria House, which provides a transitional residence and safe and supportive housing for women and children who are in the process of moving from emergency shelter to permanent housing.
School officials said that by partnering with Alexandria House, the St. Anastasia students will make a donation benefiting children who might not otherwise have all the necessary tools and supplies to begin the new school year.
The students are collecting items including notebooks, backpacks, paper, pens and pencils.
“It is a wonderful thing to see children act generously towards others. Our Catholic faith is based on generosity towards those less fortunate,” said Monsignor Gabriel Gonzales, pastor of the school.
“We teach our children the importance of the ‘bigger picture,’ by giving them opportunities throughout the school year to lend a hand, and they always step up to help those who are in need.”
