A coach at Santa Monica High School was arrested Wednesday, June 2nd, for allegedly having unlawful sex with a minor and for outstanding traffic warrants.

The coach, Los Angeles resident Michael David Hearn, is an assistant football coach and a junior varsity basketball coach for the high school, which is in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.

“The alleged victim is not or was never in the district,” said school district superintendent John Deasy.

Santa Monica Police detectives arrested the 37-year-old Hearn at the high school Wednesday afternoon, June 2nd.

He was taken to Santa Monica Jail to be booked. He was released on Thursday, June 3rd, after posting a $42,174 bail.

The Los Angeles district attorney’s office has charged Hearn with one count of unlawful sex with a minor. His arraignment is forthcoming.

Santa Monica Police detectives had been investigating Hearn for several weeks.

Deasy said Hearn has been suspended and would not be returning to the district or campus until the allegations are resolved.
