Fourteen local boats participated in the San Diego Yacht Club Yachting Cup Saturday and Sunday, April 30th, and May 1st.

Seven classes had local boats sailing in picture-perfect weather.

The event began Friday, April 29th, with the Leukemia Cup, a fundraiser that benefited the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

This year the event raised a remarkable $92,000.

Saturday, the Yachting Cup began with breezes coming out of the west at 12 to 14 knots.

Three races were scheduled for all classes. However, due to a “gate malfunction,” the final race for the J/105 class had to be tossed out.

Sunday began with a patchy marine layer and light breeze.

By start time the breeze had filled in with 12 knots and two races were completed for each class.
