Santa Monica College (SMC) finished 14th place among 153 community colleges in the 2005-2006 Student Math League competition, putting the college in the 91st percentile of two-year colleges nationwide.

Ranked individually, SMC math major Chan Ieong Kuan finished 24th in a field of thousands of participants.

Altogether, 100 students from Santa Monica College participated in the competition.

“I am very proud of our students,” said math professor William Konya. “Their strong results show that the students in mathematics at Santa Monica College do outstanding work.”

The Student Math League competition — in which students are given multiple choice and written exams — is sponsored by the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.
