Actor and former teacher Harry Lennix, who has been involved in education and civic affairs, will be the commencement speaker at Santa Monica College’s 76th graduation ceremonies Tuesday, June 13th.
About 500 students are expected to receive their associate of arts degree at commencement, scheduled for 6 p.m. at Corsair Field, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica.
Lennix is a film, television, and stage actor who played chief of staff Jim Gardner on Commander in Chief.
He had recurring roles on ER and Diagnosis Murder.
He also starred in Ray with Jamie Foxx, The Matrix: Reloaded, and The Matrix: Revolutions.
An English and music teacher before becoming an actor, he founded Legacy Productions with director Chuck Smith in 1989.
The production company seeks to promote works about the African American experience.
He is also on the staff of the Goodman Theater Co. in his native Chicago and is active in various civic groups including the Advisory Council for his alma mater Northwestern University.
