Santa Monica College (SMC) womenís track and field athlete Vanessa Sautebin is one of two athletes to be named Student Athletes of the Month for April by the Community College League of California Commission on Athletics (COA), in partnership with the California Community College Sports Informa- tion Association.
The other Student Athlete of the Month for April is Joseph Wood, a member of the Golden West College swim and dive team.
Sautebin won three events at the Western State Conference track and field championships this season.
The sophomore finished in first place in the 100-meter dash, the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles, all within a span of an hour at the conference championships.
Sautebin also posted the top qualifying times in each event at the conference preliminaries this season.
She currently holds the fastest time in Southern California among community college athletes in the 100-meter hurdles, and the third-fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles, SMC womenís track coach Eric Barron said.
Last year, Sautebin finished third at the state championships in the 100-meter hurdles.
The Community College League of California Commission on Athletics is a nonprofit organization which establishes the rules and regulations to administer the athletic activities of the nearly 25,000 student athletes at Californiaís community colleges.
