The Greenfield Sacks Gallery in Santa Monica will host Leslie Sacks: Collection of an Art Dealer, an exhibit featuring works ranging from classical to contemporary by artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, beginning Saturday, June 19th through August 28th.
An opening reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. June 19th, at Greenfield Sacks Gallery at Bergamot Station, 2525 Michigan Ave., B6, Santa Monica.
Curated by longtime Los Angeles art dealer and gallery owner Sacks, the show is comprised of vignettes that represent his style and artistic preferences, a gallery spokesman says.
The pieces are in a variety of media such as prints, drawings, paintings, and sculpture, and include works by Picasso, Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn, Jim Dine, David Hockney, Marino Marini, Larry Rivers and Maurice de Vlaminck. Also included are Chinese ceramics and African tribal art.
Sacks says his approach to collecting is one that explores a variety of world cultures. He says he appreciates each piece for its unique qualities, while taking pleasure in the “universality and the humanity of the art.”
Sacks has been collecting art for almost four decades, beginning in the early 1970s in Johannesburg, South Africa.
