In high school baseball games:

The Santa Monica High School Vikings remain at the top of the Ocean League standings and undefeated in league play after a 2-0 victory over host Culver City High School Thursday, May 5th.

The Vikings (16-9, 8-0) earned their second win of the week over third-place Culver City after defeating the Centaurs 9-4 Tuesday, May 3rd.

Senior catcher Cody Decker gave the Vikings their first score of the game after he hit his eighth home run of the season in the third inning. Santa Monica added another run in the seventh inning on an RBI (run batted in) double by junior Garett Griffin.

The Vikings will try to secure the league championship when they play second-place Hawthorne High twice this week.

St. Monica High School junior Vince Valdez scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Mariners to a 4-3 victory at home over Bosco Tech High Tuesday, May 3rd.

Junior Ruben Gutierrez and sophomore Michael Duval helped boost the St. Monica offense with one RBI each for the Mariners (10-10, 4-5), who are in third place in the Del Rey League standings.

Westchester High School was handed its third Western League loss of the season after a 6-3 defeat at University High School Thursday, May 5th.

The Comets (16-12, 9-3), who are in second place in the league standings, took an early 2-1 lead in the first inning, but University scored four runs in the sixth inning to grab the victory.

In high school softball games:

Santa Monica High School proved its first-place standing in the Ocean League and remains undefeated in league play after a 9-3 visiting victory over second-place Culver City High Thursday, May 5th.

The Vikings (14-9, 8-0) grabbed their second win of the week over Culver City after defeating the Centaurs 4-0 May 3rd.

Santa Monica jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third inning and added five more runs in the fifth inning with the help of junior catcher Christine Foley, who hit a two-run home run.

The St. Monica High School Mariners narrowly lost 2-1 to Rio Mesa High School of Oxnard in the Thousand Oaks tournament Saturday, May 7th.

The Mariners (13-11, 4-3) remain in third place in the Del Rey League and will close out the league season with a game at home against Bishop Montgomery High Thursday, May 12th.
