The Santa Monica High School Vikings baseball team has reached the Southern Section Division IV championship game at Dodger Stadium after a 5-4 semifinal victory over host Northview High School of Covina Tuesday, May 29th.

With the victory, Santa Monica (23-9) will battle Charter Oak High School of Covina for the Division IV title at 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 1st.

Charter Oak was victorious in the other Division IV semifinal game with a 5-1 win over Torrance High School.

The Vikings, who reclaimed the Ocean League baseball crown this season with a 9-1 league record, have carried their success into the Southern Section playoffs.

They picked up their first playoff victory this season with a 5-0 win over visiting La Habra High May 17th and then defeated visiting St. Bonaventure High 5-2 May 22nd.

In the quarterfinal game against host El Segundo High School May 25th, senior first baseman Diego Valdez blasted a two-run home run in the fourth inning to help lead the Vikings to a 3-0 victory.

Viking sophomore pitcher Tyler Skaggs picked up the win over El Segundo after striking out five batters in four innings.
