State Assemblywoman Julia Brownley met with Santa Monica High School students Thursday, November 19th for the “Flex Your Civic Muscles” event, an open forum to discuss education, environmental issues, and how students can become better involved in their communities.
The forum was held by Samohi SAGE (Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship) members. The event was sponsored by the SAGE Student Chapter of the League of Women Voters.
Participants included students from government, marine biology, entrepreneurship and Team Marine classes. The goal of the forum was to bring awareness to environmental issues, and students had the opportunity to voice comments and concerns during the question and answer section of the event.
SAGE members say the mission of the program is to help create the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders whose innovations and social enterprises address the major unmet needs of the global community. The Samohi SAGE team won third place overall in the SAGE USA 2009 Tournament and first place in the environmental category.
Next year the SAGE team will travel to San Francisco for the 2010 state competition.
