A 25-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested after he allegedly pointed a handgun at officers who were conducting an undercover operation in the Pico Neighborhood of Santa Monica Wednesday, July 2nd, police said.
Officers were working an undercover operation near the 1900 block of Michigan Avenue at 6:25 p.m. when they contacted a man who was a “subject” of the operation and in possession of a firearm, Santa Monica police Sgt. Renaldi Thruston said.
As officers approached the man, he allegedly pointed the gun at an undercover officer, who identified himself as a police officer, Thruston said.
No shots were fired.
The suspect, identified as Jason Anthony Hurtado, then fled on foot and tossed the gun away, Thruston said. Police quickly apprehended the suspect and recovered the firearm.
Hurtado, a convicted felon, was arrested and booked for assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and probation violation, Thruston said.
