A 66 year-old Santa Monica resident died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Dec. 23 in downtown Santa Monica.

Police responded to the accident, which occurred at 9 p.m. at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard 10th Street involving a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the 19-year-old driver was traveling westbound on Wilshire approaching 10th Street, according to police. The pedestrian was walking southbound across Wilshire when the driver struck the pedestrian while in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene by the Santa Monica Fire Department and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle was interviewed at the location and released.

The department is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.
