Santa Monica Serial Rape Suspect Arrested
A homeless man accused of raping multiple women in Santa Monica and other Westside neighborhoods is behind bars after an exhaustive search by Santa Monica, Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police as well as the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.
Pablo Carlos Pineda, 32, is accused of sexual assaulting a woman in Santa Monica on Jan. 13, raping a woman in Santa Monica on Feb. 5, attacking a woman with a brick while raping her in Beverly Hills on April 15, and kidnapping and raping a fourth victim in West L.A. on July 2.
Pineda was arrested in the MacArthur Park area on July 19 and remains in custody. He faces 25 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
Police have forensic evidence that ties Pineda to the crimes, according to a Santa Monica Police Department bulletin.
Santa Monica police Lt. Saul Rodriguez said the FBI’s efforts were integral to making the arrest.
“They helped us develop a profile for the suspect, which helped lead us to identify him and ultimately arrest him,” Rodriguez said.
Anyone who may have information about the crimes is asked to call Santa Monica police Det. Eddie Soto at (310) 458-8212.
