Santa Monica Police Officer Jason Olson has been honored by the California Office of Traffic Safety for traffic safety excellence.
Olson received the special recognition during a ceremony Aug. 15 at the Public Safety Facility, where Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks and members of the Office of Traffic Safety were in attendance.
Olson’s work with traffic safety has served the Santa Monica community well, helping to lower alcohol involved deaths and injuries and training department personnel on driving under the influence detection, police officials said. The officer has served as a traffic collision investigator and used his expertise as a drug recognition expert to identify individuals driving under the influence of narcotics.
Earlier this year Olson was recognized by the Los Angeles chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for his efforts in arresting individuals who were driving while impaired.
In 2011 Olson arrested 60 individuals who were driving while impaired, police said.
