The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District joined The Macerich Company’s fourth annual Big Red Bucket corporate food drive to bring holiday cheer to 110 Santa Monica families.

Macerich owns the Santa Monica Place shopping mall.

The company encouraged its corporate employees and vendors to fill Big Red Buckets with food items such as canned vegetables, chicken broth, gravy and cranberry sauce, stuffing and biscuit mixes, powdered milk, ready-made pie crust and filling, and other holiday staples such as flour, sugar, and cornmeal.

Each 16-gallon bucket contained items for a complete holiday meal as well as a gift certificate for a turkey or a ham.

The buckets were distributed Monday, December 12th.

“Families traditionally gather for a holiday meal this time of year,” said Susan Valentine, Macerich senior vice president of marketing. “The Big Red Bucket campaign makes this seasonal tradition a reality for more area families.”

Each family also received a $50 debit card to assist them with other grocery items and several families, including a Gulf Coast family displaced to Santa Monica by Hurricane Katrina, received trees, extra food items, money, and clothing.
