The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District will hold the first of four Facilities Master Plan workshops from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, February 25th, in the Santa Monica High School cafeteria, 601 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica.
Free parking is available off Olympic Boulevard in the school lot next to the Technology Building.
Free childcare will be available to those who call (310) 450-8338 ext. 100 by Thursday, February 23rd.
The Facilities Master Plan identifies what facilities the district needs in order to achieve objectives of the 2002 Strategic Education Plan.
Seven educational initiatives established in the Strategic Education Plan are abundant resources, curriculum, differentiated instruction, equity and equal- ity of education, schools as community centers, optimal class size, and universal access to quality early childhood education, family support programs and after-school care.
The district encourages community members from Santa Monica and Malibu — including teachers, district staff, administrators, parents and students — to attend the workshops and participate in the planning process.
The first workshop will focus on the district’s current facilities and needs as well as community needs and assets.
Information on facilities issues derived from site inspections and survey information from teachers and staff will be discussed.
At the workshop, school facilities will be mapped in the context of the communities’ physical, cultural, educational, economic and organizational resources.
Participants will explore ways to enhance programs and learning environments for all grade levels of district programs by using both school and community resources.
The other three workshops will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays March 25th, April 29th, and June 3rd.
The March 25th workshop at Webster Elementary School in Malibu will look at district facilities in light of future enrollment and programs.
